Positive relationships

Greetings everyone,

I'm quite a new editor, hence why I opted to post here before adding something to the page. I'm quite surprised almost nothing is said about positive relationships. In short, I wanted to add something about: process of capitalization, approach commitment and avoidance commitment, gratitude in relationships, responsiveness, and (research of) interventions.

Would this be useful to add? Should I make a draft for these topics here, or just add them to the article and see how it's received? If so, where should I put them? Foolish Editor (talk) 20:41, 3 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Revisit First Paragraph

Currently the first paragraph of the article is:

Positive psychology is a field of psychological theory and research of optimal human functioning of people, groups, and institutions. It studies "positive subjective experience, positive individual traits, and positive institutions... it aims to improve quality of life."

Let me explain why I think this is a problematic first paragraph.

First: "Positive psychology is a field of psychological theory and research of optimal human functioning of people, groups, and institutions." The term "optimal human functioning" is too vague—what exactly about human functioning are we optimizing? Does positive psychology literature ever claim they want to optimize anything?

Second part: It studies "positive subjective experience, positive individual traits, and positive institutions... it aims to improve quality of life."” Which based on content is fine to me, the … in the middle of the sentence, usage of quotation marks, and “subjective experience” (is there objective experience?) seems unnecessary though.

I would vote to use the definition the APA has for positive psychology - would love to hear your thoughts on this! Foolish Editor (talk) 21:30, 3 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
